Webtoon Comics

ImageChunker is perfect for webtoon and vertical scroll comic artists who need to split long comic pages for platform requirements.

Different platforms have different size limits:

PlatformMax HeightMax WidthFormat
Webtoon1280×20000px total, max 800px/image800pxJPG/PNG
Tapas940×10000px total940pxJPG/PNG

Traditional comic software exports full pages. But webtoon platforms:

  • Limit file dimensions — Most cap at 800-1000px height per image
  • Require multiple files — Long scrolls need to be split
  • Need consistent widths — All images must match
  • Prefer optimized files — Balance quality vs. size

ImageChunker solves these automatically.

From Clip Studio Paint, Procreate, or Photoshop:

  • Export as single tall PNG or JPEG
  • Use your target platform’s width (e.g., 800px for Webtoon)
  • Keep maximum quality at this stage
  1. Open ImageChunker
  2. Drop your exported page onto the window
  3. The source panel shows your full comic

For Webtoon (800px wide):

SettingValue
ModeSmart (detects panel boundaries)
Chunk height800px (safe limit)
FormatJPEG
Quality85-90%

For Tapas (940px wide):

SettingValue
ModeSmart
Chunk height940px
FormatPNG

Smart mode is ideal for comics because it:

  • Detects panel gutters — Splits between panels, not through them
  • Recognizes speech bubbles — Keeps dialogue together
  • Finds natural breaks — Empty space between scenes

If Smart mode doesn’t find good splits:

  • Increase sensitivity
  • Or use Regular mode with manual height

Review each chunk:

  • ✓ No panels cut in half
  • ✓ Speech bubbles complete
  • ✓ Action sequences intact
  • ✓ Text fully visible

Export with appropriate naming:

episode_01_001.jpg
episode_01_002.jpg
episode_01_003.jpg

Or with page context:

ep01_page01_001.jpg
ep01_page01_002.jpg

Smart Chunking in comic mode:

  1. Scans for gutters — White/empty horizontal bands
  2. Detects panel borders — High contrast horizontal lines
  3. Identifies safe zones — Areas with minimal content
  4. Prioritizes splits — Prefers larger gutters over small ones

To get optimal splits:

  1. Consistent gutter width — Use 10-30px gutters between panels
  2. Clear panel borders — Solid lines help detection
  3. Avoid full-bleed panels — When possible, leave margins
  4. Consider split points — When drawing, think about where cuts might occur

If you have panels without gutters:

  1. Use Regular mode with fixed height
  2. Or add minimal overlap (5-10px)
  3. Check preview for any awkward cuts

When you have multiple pages per episode:

  1. Export all pages from drawing software
  2. Add all pages to ImageChunker batch queue
  3. Use consistent settings for entire episode
  4. Export with episode-aware naming
